My therapeutic training is in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, Massage Therapy of various sorts, Hakomi (mindfulness body oriented psychotherapy), Vipassana / Insight Meditation, Somatic Dance of various sorts, Storytelling as Healing, and Life. Essentially what I bring to clients is compassionate awareness and faith in their health. When I work with clients, I am feeling the impulses and responses in their bodies, supporting the change that's been trying to happen in them all along.
Our bodies *know how to heal themselves*. Our bodies know how to heal us, when we start to loosen our inner grip just a bit and trust in our wholeness. I support healing with touch that is different at different times, depending on what's happening. Sometimes it will be Craniosacral (orienting to cerebral spinal fluid rhythm, which is a whole body continual expression), sometimes it's a long stretch, or some movement, or pressure. It's always with respect for the inherent wisdom within the client's body, never forced. Often the orientation takes us to an organ or the meridians (energy channels and nodes) that extend through the body. It's a matter of listening with my hands and awareness to what's enlivening in the healing process.
What I mean by "This is different than massage" is that massage therapy tends to come with an expectation of the therapist relaxing the clients muscles for them. But muscle tension is a very tertiary situation; it doesn't stand alone. Muscle tension comes from the subconscious and comes as a result of other conditions at play. I don't focus on relaxing tense muscles because my orientation is beneath that, to the fluid pathways and whole body communication, which is a matter of consciousness.
Biodynamic bodywork is the closest I've found to consciousness expansion healing. We have a birthright to be fully alive in ourselves and that's the understanding I bring to clients. We find out what wants to happen from the wisdom of the body consciousness. It is always a surprise and always amazing when healing flow takes over!
