** In August of 2023, I will begin training to be a certified End of Life Doula. I expect to be ready to take clients by December 2023. Contact me if you have needs around this offering. **
What is an End of Life Doula?
An End of Life Doula (also called Death Doula) acts as a supportive bridge for a person who is living while approaching death and dying. There are many personalized ways this can look, depending on the person's needs and interests. In my view, it is a creative friendship, totally in service of helping a person feel free to transition from this life.
Similar to a Birth Doula, an End of Life Doula is there to help with navigating and communicating wishes within whatever system of care is already there - family, palliative care/hospice, social workers, care facilities, chaplains, legal forms such as medical directives. We also have the important roll of helping the dying person create their legacy projects - final stories and offerings to those who will live beyond them.
I envision being of comfort to my dying clients in the same way I am with my therapy clients. The body is our natural home in this life and deserves loving kindness, respect and nurturing from birth til death.
